Non-Invasive Prenatal Diagnosis in Twin Pregnancies: Current Status

چکیده

The objective of this review is to assess the evidence which supports the use of non-invasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) in twin pregnancies. Through the years, we have witnessed the technological developments in non-invasive prenatal diagnosis attained new heights, but those studies were usually limited in singleton pregnancies. As we known, twin pregnancies are at higher risk in both aneuploidy and structural abnormalities. The firstand secondtrimester aneuploidy screening in twin gestations are less accurate than in singleton gestations. And the invasive prenatal diagnosis in twin pregnancies is associated with a high risk of pregnancy loss. So, it is urgent to develop accurate noninvasive prenatal diagnosis in twin pregnancies. Recent studies about different terminology and methods in NIPD of twin pregnancies have been reported, suggesting that non-invasive prenatal testing can be feasibly and reliably used in twin pregnancies. In this article, we summarized the published literature on non-invasive prenatal diagnosis in twin pregnancies in order to benefit our clinical practice.

I-40: Non Invasive Prenatal Genetic Diagnosis;Current Status and The Future

Discovery of cell free fetal DNA in 1997 has deeply changed the outlook of prenatal diagnosis approaches as most of the clinically established screening tests are not sensitive/specific enough while the current practical diagnostic tests are also invasive in their nature. The most common prenatal screening test is routinely practiced for the diagnosis of Down syndrome (DS) which includes a 10% ...

Fetal cells in maternal blood: state of the art for non-invasive prenatal diagnosis.

In Singapore, 1 in 5 pregnancies occur in mothers > 35 years old and genetic diseases, such as thalassaemia, are common. Current methods for the diagnosis of aneuploidy and monogenic disorders require invasive testing by amniocentesis, chorion villus biopsy or fetal blood sampling. These tests carry a procedure-related risk of miscarriage that is unacceptable to many couples. Development of non...

O-45: Quantification of Cell-Free-Fetal-DNAfrom Maternal Plasma for the First Time in Pakistan:Implications for Non-Invasive PrenatalDiagnosis of Genetic Disorders

Background: Current prenatal diagnosis requires invasive testing which carries a 1-4% procedure-related-risk of miscarriage; hence, non-invasive techniques are desired. The recent demonstration of cell-free-fetal-DNA enriched from maternal plasma has opened new possibilities for non-invasive-prenatal-diagnosis of not only genetic-disorders such as β-thalassaemia and haemophilia but also chromos...
